Who is the UK’s Eurovision representative?

Upper London Mae Muller has been confirmed as the United Kingdom’s Eurovision Song Contest 2023 representative. The 25-year-old Kentish Town, North London singer and songwriter is scheduled to perform her single I Wrote A Song, a catchy revenge song about her ex-boyfriend.

Muller follows closely behind Sam Ryder, who placed second in Turin last year, achieving the best result for the United Kingdom in more than two decades. She has been in the music industry for some time, with her 2018 debut single Close and MTV Award nomination. After achieving a minor hit in 2021 with Better Days, she collaborated with Little Mix and Marshmello, among others.

Despite not having written her first song until she was 19, Muller had been singing since she was two years old. Her aunt is believed to be the renowned music video director Sophie Muller, who directed the clip for Mika’s Grace Kelly, in which 9-year-old Mae appeared. Additionally, Florence + The Machine, Lily Allen, and Gwen Stefani were early influences.

I Wrote A Song, an upbeat club banger with Spanish guitar accents, is a cathartic anthem about taking the high road and writing a song rather than torching someone’s house. It was written with hitmakers Karen Poole and Lewis Thompson and represents Muller’s first attempt to win Eurovision.

The vocalist has paid her dues and earned her stripes by opening for Liam Payne and Little Mix on tour, performing with Aitch in the Live Lounge, and playing a sold-out homecoming concert at the Kentish Town Forum last year. In addition to starring in a gritty action film last year, she is planning to release her debut album later this year.

The United Kingdom is confident that Mae Muller is their best chance at winning Eurovision in years. The singer has never shied away from her desire to become a pop star, travel the world, and reach the top of the charts. With her catchy revenge anthem and extensive experience, she may be the ideal candidate for Liverpool in May.
