Wales Climate: Snow throughout Wales closes schools

Snow and ice have closed and delayed the opening of schools in Wales.

The recent snowfall has impacted over one hundred schools in Wales, with closures and delayed openings announced today. Caerphilly has seen the most school closures, with a total of 65 schools closing. Rhondda Cynon Taf comes in second with 43 closed schools, while Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil have four and three respectively.

However, seven schools in Newport have delayed their openings until 10 a.m. so that snow-covered grounds can be treated. The decision comes after snow and ice warnings were issued in south, central, and western Wales.

Many parents and students will likely experience disruptions to their studies and other plans as a result of the timing of the closures. Local authorities have advised parents to check the school’s website for updates on closures or delayed openings.

In light of the Met Office’s forecast for additional snowfall and icy conditions in the coming days, it is likely that more schools will be closed in the coming days. They have urged individuals to take additional precautions when travelling in affected areas and to walk carefully on icy surfaces.

These weather conditions have wreaked havoc across Wales and had severe consequences for travellers in the region. In light of the impending snowfall, it is imperative that people remain vigilant and prepared for further disruptions.
