Significant’ new lead in Bristol murder investigation from 1993

Bristol, 32-year-old Carol Clark was murdered in 1993, and police in Gloucestershire have received “new and significant information” about the crime.

Ms. Clark was last seen alive around Picton Street and Ashley Road in St. Pauls, Bristol, on Friday night. Unbeknownst to her family, she was a sex worker. She left a note for her boyfriend stating she was going to find more work, but she never returned. She was later found dead and partially clothed at Sharpness Docks on Sunday 28 March 1993.

Following the discovery of Ms. Clark’s body, the police launched a massive investigation that resulted in more than 500 witness statements and a number of arrests, but no one was ever charged with her murder. The police even showed the press her diary containing the names of potential clients in an effort to elicit information, but to no avail.

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Usher stated, “This has given us new leads to investigate. Unfortunately, we are unable to discuss the information we have received, but we still require public support.”

Mr. Usher believes Carol was a member of a “relatively close-knit community” and that loyalties may have prevented people from coming forward 30 years ago. Now, he is asking anyone who knew Ms. Clark to come forward, as he believes that these loyalties may no longer exist.

The cold case has been reopened as a result of “new and significant information,” and the Gloucestershire Constabulary is now appealing to any members of the public with pertinent information to come forward and assist in bringing closure to the case.
