Ryan Tomney was sentenced to seven years in prison for his participation in the Grimsby rooftop siege

A man sentenced to seven years in prison for a nine-hour rooftop siege in which he threw bricks and tiles at police and set a roof on fire has been apprehended.

Friday at Grimsby Crown Court, Ryan Tomney, 36, of Cleethorpes, was sentenced to imprisonment after pleading guilty to charges of arson, affray, threats to kill, criminal damage, and assault on a police officer.

The incident occurred on Lincoln Boulevard in Grimsby in April 2022. A police officer was injured, a number of vehicles and homes were damaged, and a number of residences were evacuated.

Det Con Connolly stated, “Tom’s goal was to cause as much chaos as possible and evade capture by the police.” However, I want you to know that we will always pursue those who seek to disrupt our communities by climbing on rooftops through the courts. Tomney is a self-centered individual who had no regard for those whose property he damaged or for the community that was profoundly affected by his thoughtless actions.”

Anyone who engages in disruptive behaviour will be held accountable for their actions, as communicated by the Humberside Police. The nine-hour siege had a significant impact on the residents of Grimsby, as numerous homes and vehicles were damaged.

The court’s decision serves as a stark reminder that disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated in the community. Anyone with information about similar incidents is encouraged to contact Humberside Police or send story ideas to yorkslincs.news@bbc.co.uk.
