In a plot worthy of a Hollywood film, Telford police foiled the theft of 200,000 Cadbury Creme Eggs in a daring rescue operation hailed as “saving Easter.”
Saturday, police were notified of a break-in at an industrial estate where thieves stole chocolate treats valued at approximately £40,000. West Mercia police stated that they had been searching for individuals “apparently posing as the Easter bunny.”
Officers were able to locate the eggs, however, after stopping a vehicle on the M42. In addition to Cadbury Creme Eggs, it was reported that other types of chocolate were taken from the site in Stafford Park.
Since then, a 32-year-old homeless man has been charged with criminal damage and two counts of theft.
West Mercia Police Detective Constable Sam Price stated, “We are thrilled to have saved Easter for Cadbury Creme Egg fans across the nation.” He added, “This was an excellent example of partnership between West Mercia Police and Warwickshire Police that resulted in the recovery of a substantial quantity of stolen property.”
