Holly Newton, a teen victim of a stabbing in Hexham, was buried

Hexham, Northumberland, is holding a memorial service for 15-year-old Holly Newton, who was stabbed to death on January 27. A funeral procession is making its way through the town centre to Hexham Abbey, where her funeral will take place today.

Hundreds of people gathered in Sele Park two weeks ago for a memorial service for Holly. Holly’s favourite colour was used to decorate the park, and the Abbey was illuminated in purple in her honour.

Holly’s family described her as a “bright and bubbly” adolescent who was “popular and adored by many.” They stated that she had her entire life ahead of her, had touched so many hearts, and would be “beyond words” missed.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of Holly, attempted murder, and possession of a knife, and will appear in court on February 27.

Holly’s school described her as a “quiet, conscientious, helpful, and kind” young lady. Her death has left her friends and family in utter disbelief.

Holly’s tragic death has left the close-knit community of Hexham devastated and united in grief. People have gathered to honour the memory of a young girl whose life was tragically cut short.
