A jury convicted a former police officer and attorney of raping a minor over thirty years ago. Cambridgeshire police employed James Boyle, 69, of Sunbury Street, Edinburgh, when he committed two counts of rape and one count of indecent assault. A jury found him guilty. Following a “exchange of social media messages” in 2018, detectives learned about the offences.
Det. Sgt. Carla Hillyer from the Essex Police praised the victim for coming forward and pointed out that Boyle was still working as an attorney when he was arrested. Constabularies from across the United Kingdom routinely investigate cases where they regard the relevant police force in Cambridgeshire to have a potential conflict of interest at different locations.
Ms. Hillyer claims that Detective Constable Adam Clarke laboured assiduously on the case. The Cambridge Crown Court has scheduled Boyle to return for sentencing on May 25. Through the Synergy Essex website, the Essex Police stated that anyone affected by rape and sexual abuse could obtain advice and direction.
This case serves as a reminder of the gravity of the issue of sexual violence and demonstrates that victims have the courage to come forward regardless of the perpetrator’s background or systemic knowledge.
