This month, former headmistress Emma Pattison, 45, her husband George, 39, and their daughter Lettie were discovered dead at Epsom College. It is believed that George murdered his wife and daughter before committing suicide.
In light of this tragedy, the renowned educationalist and historian Sir Anthony Seldon has been appointed until September 2024 as the new head of the independent school. Sir Anthony expressed his commitment to preserving Ms. Pattison’s legacy and advancing the school in accordance with her wishes.
President of Epsom College, Lord Alex Carlile, remarked: “Emma was a wonderful person, a distinguished educator, and was destined to lead the college on an exciting journey. The fact that her life was so cruelly cut short is devastating to all who knew her and all who will come to know her in the future.”
Sir Anthony Seldon will serve as the interim head of Epsom College until September 2024, when a permanent replacement will be appointed. The school community expressed regret that this appointment was necessary, but they remain committed to honouring Ms Pattison’s memory and upholding the principles that guided her life.
