After attacks in Newtownards and Bangor, three men were arrested

Three men have been arrested in connection with a series of attacks in the North Down region that were linked to loyalist tensions.

Following the use of petrol bombs against a residence in Moyne Gardens, Newtownards, the suspects were apprehended. On the scene, paramedics treated the 62-year-old man inside the residence.

A man of age 29 was arrested in Newtownards, while a man of age 53 was arrested in Hillsborough. In addition, a 30-year-old man was arrested in Newtownards on suspicion of arson with the intent to endanger life and possession of a Class B controlled substance. Three men are still in custody.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) stated that the attacks were related to an ongoing feud between two rival drug gangs operating in the north Down and Ards areas under the banner of the Ulster Defence Association (UDA).

According to Superintendent Johnston McDowell of the PSNI, eight residences have been attacked with pipe bombs, petrol bombs, and other devices. As part of the investigation, a number of items were removed from Newtownards-area properties for further examination.

The PSNI is still investigating the attacks and is urging anyone with information to contact them.
