Additional snow and ice warnings continue to be issued

This week, snow and ice have caused chaos throughout the United Kingdom, with temperatures dropping, school closures in Shetland, Aberdeenshire, and Highland, and Met Office warnings.

The warnings cover the central belt and southern Scotland until Friday at 14:00, as well as northern Scotland until Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Additionally, Northern Ireland and portions of England and Wales are affected.

The Met Office has warned of additional snow and ice that could disrupt travel. There is the potential for strong winds to cause blizzard conditions and snow drifting, isolating rural communities. On the hills of northern England and southern Scotland, snow accumulations of up to 15 centimetres (6 inches) are anticipated, while lower levels are anticipated elsewhere.

Thursday at 06:15, officers were dispatched to the junction 2 slip road on the M90 near Dunfermline due to a minor collision. The area was extremely icy, and Traffic Scotland warned drivers to exercise caution.

The snow warning has been lifted for portions of central and north-eastern Scotland, leaving the majority of the central belt and south of the country covered until Friday.

The United Kingdom is currently experiencing an Arctic blast that has caused widespread temperature drops and widespread disruption. The Met Office has issued travel disruption warnings for snow and ice, with up to 15cm (6in) of snow expected in some areas. The police have been dispatched to particularly icy roads to warn motorists to exercise caution.
