Lancashire-based nurses James Cole and Amelia Harris were recently proposed to at sunrise on Haystacks fell in the Lake District. With their shared love of the Lakes and desire to complete all of Alfred Wainwright’s more than 200 walks, it was the ideal location for James’s proposal.
James revealed that he had to secretly use a drone to record the video of his proposal, much to Amelia’s surprise. They have been together for three and a half years and both work at Royal Blackburn Infirmary.
James described the event as follows: “She was shocked. I too shed tears, as did she. Haystacks is Amelia’s favourite Wainwright, and Monday was the first day in a while that the sun was shining.
Since sharing the video on social media, the couple has received an overwhelming response.

They had climbed Haystacks together as part of their goal to complete all of Alfred Wainwright’s 200+ walks. James managed to surprise Amelia by getting footage from a drone he had set on autopilot.
The couple met three-and-a-half years ago while working at Royal Blackburn Infirmary, where Amelia is a nurse in A&E and James is a nurse manager in mental health. James said that Haystacks was Amelia’s favourite Wainwright walk and that “Monday just felt right, the first bit of sunshine we’ve had in a while.”
