Lewis Capaldi has released a new documentary on Netflix detailing his life and career. Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now is a documentary about the Scottish singer-rise songwriter’s from his childhood in Whitburn, West Lothian to chart success, a sold-out arena tour, and celebrity status.
Despite the success of his debut album, “Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent,” which sold more copies in the United Kingdom in 2019 than any other album and made him the best-selling artist in 2020, Capaldi felt the pressure of expectations for his second album. This documentary examines how his rapid success has affected his mental health, resulting in panic attacks and a diagnosis of Tourette Syndrome.
Capaldi discusses his struggles with mental health and how they manifest physically in the documentary. He describes panic attacks that render him “completely disconnected from reality” and a shoulder twitch that worsens when composing music. He also discusses how the deaths of two close relatives when he was a child have contributed to his anxieties.
Currently, Capaldi is treating his anxiety with medication, exercise, and (relatively) healthy eating. The release of his second album is scheduled for this summer, so fans will be hoping that he has learned from the success of his first.
Lewis Capaldi is one of the many musicians whose careers have been impacted by the Covid pandemic, and this documentary reveals what it’s like for them to deal with the stresses of celebrity status. In addition, it serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining our mental health, particularly during difficult times.
