Cardiff automobile accident: mother criticises hunt for missing companions

On Monday, a car accident in Cardiff claimed the lives of three friends and left two others badly injured.

Eve Smith, 21, Darcy Ross, 21, and Rafel Jeanne, 24, were reported missing over the weekend, and two days later, their vehicle was discovered. Sophie Russon, age 20, and Shane Loughlin, age 32, were brought to the hospital following the collision.

Anna Certowicz, the mother of Sophie Russon, was frustrated by the length of time it took to locate her daughter and her companions. She stated that she had to take matters into her own hands by driving to Cardiff to knock on doors because police “simply didn’t appear to believe it was worth investigating.”

It is customary in such situations, Gwent Police and South Wales Police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. Ruth Jones, a member of the Labour Party, has urged the public to wait for the facts regarding the incident.

Friends of the group held a vigil at the site of the tragedy and expressed their grief. Tamzin Samuels, 20, a friend of the three ladies, stated that police “just posted the appeal an hour before to the girls’ discovery.” She stated that they were “very popular females” and “the light of the party” and that their actions were out of character.
